Mentoring Training

MentorOasis Mentoring Training is designed to provide participants with the knowledge, skills and understanding required to sustain successful mentoring relationships with young people.

Why?

Mentoring is about offering a young person a relationship of trust that will provide support, challenge and encouragement through the natural decision-making processes of life.

How?

The course is an introduction to the skill set needed for this vital component of many professions.

The training looks at helping you to consider your role as mentors, the experience of the mentee and the relationship between the two. It provides a comprehensive introduction to mentoring and allows the participants to practise mentoring skills. We also supply participants with a CD of resources, covering around 70 subjects for mentoring sessions, as well as session recording sheets, sample policy documents and further reading resources.

Who would most benefit from the course?

Anyone working with young people in a professional capacity would benefit from this course such as youth workers, NTAs, Connexions workers, police officers, ministers etc.

Delivery of Training

The course is delivered by The Oasis Youth Inclusion department and other Oasis Youth Workers

Course Structure

The training itself consists of three full days, in which nine separate modules are covered. This is often delivered across a few months to provide the opportunity to put into practice what has been taught during lectures and to then feedback and discuss with the group.

Teaching, Learning and Assessment Methods

This takes place through lectures, group work, various activities and practice

Cost

From September 2009, the course will cost £250*, or £125* if you are representing a non-statutory/not for profit organisation.

* These fees may be subject to further increases before September 2009.
