Jeremy Thomson PhD (Kings), MA, STh, BEng, Dip HE, Cert CC (Relate) - Vice Principal and Principal Lecturer in Theology

Jeremy Thomson

Rev Dr Jeremy Thomson is responsible for Teaching and Learning for all College courses at foundation, undergraduate and post-graduate levels. He liaises with our validating university and contributes theological and ministerial elements to the teaching programme.

Jeremy's early career included electronic engineering, student ministry and Church of England parish leadership, including youth ministry. He then studied for an MA in Biblical Interpretation from the London Bible College and later a PhD in Systematic Theology from King’s College, University of London. He worked in a book shop, and trained and volunteered as a relationship counsellor with Relate, before discovering the joys of theological teaching with Birkbeck College, University of London. He has been a Tutor and Senior Tutor on the Youth Work and Ministry Course, and was National Course Leader from March 2006 to August 2009.

Jeremy's favourite musicians include Jackson Browne, David Lindley, Ry Cooder, J J Cale, Lynyrd Skynyrd and the Allman Brothers Band. He likes making things and watches some cricket and rugby. He was a Council Member of The London Mennonite Centre, Highgate, from 2001, and became Chair of its Trust in April 2010. He is married to Kathy, an artist who is Head of the Centre for Hearing-Impairment and Language Disorder at Mole Hill Copse Primary School in Maidstone, and they enjoy coastal walking together.

Jeremy's theological interests include: Literary, historical and theological aspects of Biblical interpretation Ecclesiology and its outworking in church practices Theological ethics, especially with regard to peace and justice The interface between emotional literacy and theology Historical, philosophical and cultural influences on theological method and education
