Martin Hardwidge MA, BA, Cert Ed - Senior Lecturer in Youth and Community Work
Rev Martin Hardwidge joined the college staff in 2004. He originally trained as a teacher at Bishop Otter College in Chichester, qualifying in 1974. Since 1980 he has been part of a number of voluntary sector and Christian organisations, including The Coke Hole Trust and Frontier Youth Trust where he worked with and on behalf of young people at risk, specifically those with accommodation needs and those recovering from alcohol and drug misuse. In 1990 he finished his BA in Social Policy with the Open University and went on to complete his Masters Degree in Youth Ministry and Theological Education with King’s College (London) in 2003.
Within the college Martin teaches on a number of modules at various levels, he has responsibility for leading on the youth work subject area. Martin has also been a visiting lecturer and field work tutor for the Centre for Youth Ministry (Nottingham) and visiting lecturer at Regents Park College (Oxford). He was part of the Academic Board of Spurgeon’s College (London) and has participated in validation panels for the University of Wales (Newport).
Martin is a youth ministry portfolio assessor for the Baptist Union of Great Britain with whom he is an accredited Youth Specialist and he is also, since 2009, a local councillor. He is married to Sue, who is the Baptist minister of Great Ashby Community Church, Stevenage. His leisure interests include photography and playing blues guitar.
