Could Mark ‘Work’ for You?

← Back to Hosting a student worker

Mark has decided he Mark's case studywants to retrain having identified that his passion is working with children and families. His wife is working full-time and they have a small mortgage. Mark qualifies for student loans and allowances if he comes on the programme full-time.

Mark has been volunteering with a local school team and coaching a church football league. He wants to continue this volunteering and expand the programme into other churches and schools in the community. He finds that a local youth club is interested and has a JNC qualified youth worker and is interested in having someone alongside to assist. They are willing to pay for 1.5 days per week but are having difficulty recruiting. Mark suggested he become a student worker in return of payment of the placement fee and travel expenses to and from College. He will also continue volunteering in the church football league and Sunday activities. He hopes his input means that a connection may be forged between the local churches and community groups.
