Course Title: Supporting Young People in Promoting Positive Relationships
Module Code: AM75383-0 Credits: 15 Fee: £260.00
Module Leaders: Sarah Smith and Kate Cocker Location: Oasis College or in location
Status: Option for the University Foundation Diploma and available as stand-alone course through a Certificate of Credit
Mode of Delivery: The full course takes 10-15 weeks to complete and requires attendance at four taught workshop days during this period. This course can be tailored to a group in your location (by request) subject to sufficient student numbers.
Starting Dates: This course runs up to three times a year with starting dates in the Autumn (Sept-Dec.), Spring (Jan-Apr.) and Summer (May-Aug.). Courses are subject to a minimum number of students in order to run in any given teaching block.

Overview: This course will provide the knowledge and skills to support relationships and sexual health education in schools and youth settings. The module addresses the need for informed practice when working with young people to empower them to make healthy life choices. The module will include the following key areas:
  • Development of sexual behaviour through childhood and puberty;
  • The link between self-esteem, social pressures and the decisions young people make;
  • Identifying building blocks for healthy relationships and exploring different types of relationships;
  • Understanding possible consequences of sexual activity.
The module will support participants in developing effective presentation skills and equip them with the confidence to talk openly and knowledgably about sensitive issues.
Assessment: Portfolio (1,500 words). 100%
Resources: A resource pack, with an annual licence, is available for £95 per organisation (optional but recommended).

I personally found the course as a whole outstanding. The topics that were covered were done so comprehensively along with the additional suggested reading. I was greatly impressed with how the training reflected and modelled the teaching style we are to possess as SRE educators.
