Course Title: Working With Children Young People and Families
Module Code: AM75385-0 Credits: 15 Fee: £195.00
Module Leader: Martin Hardwidge Location: Oasis College, London
Status: Core to University Foundation Certificate and Diploma and available as stand-alone course through a Certificate of Credit
Mode of Delivery: This course takes 10-15 weeks to complete and requires attendance at three taught workshop days during this period.
Starting Dates: This course runs up to three times a year with starting dates in the Autumn (Sept-Dec.), Spring (Jan-Apr.) and Summer (May-Aug.). Courses are subject to a minimum number of students in order to run in any given teaching block.

Overview: This course aims to provide participants with a grounding in aspects of good practice in work with children, young people and families. The module is structured to cover aspects of each of the six core areas of skills and knowledge which are prescribed in the "Common Core: Skills and Knowledge for the Children's Workforce". These are:
  • Effective communication and engagement;
  • Child and young person development;
  • Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of the child;
  • Supporting transitions;
  • Multi-agency working;
  • Sharing information.
The module will introduce participants to a variety of developmental, theoretical and legal frameworks relevant to the areas listed above. A key emphasis throughout the module will be the application of knowledge and understanding gained to actual day-to-day practice. Therefore, the module will introduce participants to a range of tools and ways of working that promote good practice.
Assessment: Portfolio (1,500 words). 100%
