Students may transfer to Oasis College from other comparable courses at the start of each level, providing certain conditions are met. The Staffordshire University Credit Accumulation and Transfer (CAT) scheme allows evaluation of prior learning and experience, and where applicable, the credit-rating of such learning.
For example, students on comparable courses will be able to exit their course on completion of Level 1 and enter the desired Oasis College course at Level 2, provided that:
- Under the CAT scheme their prior learning is considered a pass at Level 1
- The subjects already covered are comparable to those at that level in the Oasis College course, and provide sufficient grounding for Level 2 subjects on the Oasis College course.
Where the course the student is transferring from is not sufficiently similar to the Oasis College course, it may be necessary for the student to take Level 1 modules before commencing on Level 2.
The CAT system may be used in this way to also move from another institution at completion of Level 2 to enter the Oasis College course at Level 3, and also to count modules in previous courses for students entering at Level 1, so that they are required to pass fewer modules. Staffordshire University must evaluate all prior learning to be considered in this way, and their decision is final.
It should be noted that transfer from other courses, while sufficient for the academic aspect of the youth work courses, may not be enough to confer JNC recognition. JNC qualification depends both on covering specific subjects in the academic setting, alongside gaining the specified hours of evaluated youth work practice. As such, we may be able to accept students from other courses to transfer into the BA (hons) programme without being able to confer JNC status if prior learning and experience are not sufficient.
If you are considering transferring to Oasis College from another course, or if you would like to have some aspects of prior learning considered as part of your application, then please contact us in advance of applying to discuss this further.
